About New Mission

New Mission is located in Omena Michigan. Omena is a small unincorporated community in Leelanau Township of Leelanau County in the U.S. state of Michigan. We are living in the "pinkie" of Michigan in one of the most beautiful areas on Earth. The 45th parallel runs right through the heart of the Leelanau Peninsula, home to one of the world's largest cherry crops, as well several world-class wineries, and more recently hops. We think our soil and our special microclimate here is the best in Michigan and absolutely perfect for growing all sorts of wonderful crops.

We are a small 30 acre farm that specializes in sustainably grown hops. We have owned the property since 1998 and actually saved it from being turned into a subdivision. We have had the acreage rezoned from residential back into agricultural and are working with the Leelanau Conservancy to make sure it remains a farm forever. We are beginning farmers and have paid a lot of "idiot tax" along the way but we believe that if you work hard enough you can make a positive difference in this world.

We are also the founding members of the Michigan Hop Alliance. MHA is an organization that was created to advance the hop industry in Michigan through knowledge sharing and equipment availability. As a member of the MHA, we are able to take our hops from cones to pellets and provide Michigan craft-brewers with the best tasting and most aromatic hops available.

We are honored to have worked with several of the best breweries in Michigan including Grand Rapids Brewing Company, Griffin Claw, Founders, Filling Station, Osgood, Pike 51, Short's, Stormcloud, and Vivant. We are thrilled to have been chosen as the primary source of hops for the new Grand Rapids Brewing Company.

New Mission Organics is owned and operated by Brian and Amy Tennis.
